I love the others' ideas.=C2=A0My student =C2=A0with a normal left hand lov=
es to "wear" 2 recorders [an idea of someone here on the list]. One recorde=
r is 'normal,' and the other has the thumb and left hand holes taped closed=
.=C2=A0If there's enough time between upper and lower notes, the student pl=
ays like everyone else, switching recorders at the appropriate time. If not=
, the student chooses her/his own part from what we're doing. These=C2=A0ar=
e the student's current preferences in recorder matters. When it comes to e=
arning recorder karate belts, I of[s]fer a 'hormony' choice, but the studen=
t sometimes chooses to either play her/his own hybrid part, or play twice -=
once using top notes, and once bottom notes. Everyone, of course, cheers w=
ildly. The student has tons of classmate support - and is r-e-a-l-l-y smart=
and personable. (We could not adapt the 'adaptable' recorder to work succe=
ssfully. They really do need the 6 digits.)=20

Hi list!=20
We have a 3rd grade student at my school who was born with one arm that end=
s=20
right at her elbow (with no fingers). =C2=A0Her other arm and fingers=20
are normal. =C2=A0It is amazing to watch her keep up with her peers doing a=
ll=20
sorts of things - including playing rhythm & mallet instruments. =C2=A0But =
what=20
do I do once we start recorders? =C2=A0Most adaptive recorders that I have =
seen=20
require a minimum of 6 usable digits. =C2=A0She only has 5. =C2=A0There is =
a Dolmetsch=20
adaptive recorder that can be played with one hand, but it's over $400!=20
I hate the thought that she'll have such a limited range while the other=20
students go on learning more & more fingerings. =C2=A0We also do Recorder K=
arate,=20
and as it stands, she'd only be able to earn her white, yellow & orange=20
belts. =C2=A0I will most likely adapt that for her, adding songs with those=
notes=20
that she is able to play, but using harder rhythms & articulation. =C2=A0I'=
ve=20
never dealt with a situation like this before and would love to hear your=
=20
suggestions! =C2=A0Thanks in advance!=20
